History

Founded by Tsunejiro Asano, the first president, Mikasa started its history as a store called Mikasa Shoten.
Mikasa undertook one challenge after another to create a business that would match what we call a "store of technology." During the process, Mikasa successfully built relationships of trust with its customers, and it still keeps those relationships alive as precious assets, together with a wealth of accumulated knowledge and expertise.

Sep. 1921 Tsunejiro Asano, the first president, founded Mikasa Shoten, a limited partnership company, with a capital of 5,000 yen, and started the manufacturing and sales of surveying instruments, drawing instruments, weather instruments, and weighing and measuring instruments at 2-8, Takara-cho, Kyobashi-ku, Tokyo-shi. He also started an agency business for Ginza Tamaya Shoten.
May 1938 Moved the head office to 4-1, Muromachi, Nihonbashi-ku, Tokyo-shi.
Dec. 1948 Increased capital to 250,000 yen.
Jan. 1949 Signed a Kanto Region exclusive distribution agreement with Japan Optical Industries Corporation, which started manufacturing surveying instruments.
Aug. 1951 Upon the death of Tsunejiro Asano, president, Kosaku Asano took over his position.
Oct. 1960 Mikasa Shoten was reorganized from a limited partnership company to a stock company.
Kosaku Asano became president.
Apr. 1961 Signed an exclusive distribution agreement with Japan Optical Industries Corporation (currently Nikon Corporation).
Mar. 1965 Moved the head office to 2-10-4, Tsukiji, Chuo-ku, Tokyo.
Apr. 1967 Entered the semiconductor manufacturing equipment field.
Started manufacturing and selling aligners and spin coaters.
Nov. 1970 Changed the company name to Mikasa Co., Ltd.
Moved the head office to 2-8-1, Shibakoen, Minato-ku, Tokyo.
Oct. 1979 Signed a Kanto-Koshin-Etsu Region exclusive distribution agreement for industrial microscopes with Japan Optical Industries Corporation.
Jan. 1983 Signed an exclusive distribution agreement for products made by Dr. Johannes Heidenhain GmbH with Heidenhain Japan.
Apr. 1983 Opened Osaka Office in Osaka City.
Nov. 1984 Increased capital to 53.04 million yen.
Apr. 1989 Started selling developing and etching equipment (made by Takizawa Co., Ltd.).
Oct. 1991 Signed an exclusive agency agreement with Tokyo Denshi Kogyo Co., Ltd. (currently Toshiba Teli Corporation).
Apr. 1998 Released the MIM-L wafer critical dimension measurement system.
Apr. 2001 Started selling thin coating thickness measurement systems made by Filmetrics, Inc. in the U.S.
Oct. 2003 Obtained ISO 14001 certification.
Sep. 2005 Started selling microgeometry measurement instruments made by Kosaka Laboratory Ltd.
Nov. 2006 Yasuhiro Asano became president.
Jun. 2011 Entered the Taiwanese market through Kawakawa Co., Ltd., a local company, on a full-scale basis.
Feb. 2012 Signed a distributor agreement with Ushio (Shanghai) Inc.
Started entering the Chinese market on a full-scale basis.
